I am drawing upon old memories info but I believe the old generic name for many Tetras was Tetragonopterus or something along those lines.
It meant "small tear to pieces". I may have that wrong but the name has been abandoned for decades. If correct it easy to see how they came by that name.
The dentition of Characins is one of the d characteristics when keying them out.

They are true Bleeding Heart Tetras.
H. socolofi is not nearly as colorful, or large and showy.
