First things first...The credit for these gorgeous fish goes to Dr. Dennis Chang. That being said, there's definitely something in the tap water in Vegas. The first 2 videos are yesterday morning. They Spawned around 7am this morning. The last video is a treat. Wild caught altum parenting a spawn! Don't get too excited I'm pretty sure the male went full retard and just observed the spawn. I don't know for sure I passed out just before the actual spawn and when I woke up "they" were finished. He beat her up pretty good which is really uncharacteristic of this male. Forgive the crappy iphone video. The pics are even worse. I didnt wanna expose the eggs to the flash but hey....I guess its better than nothing.

The "Holy Ghost" of Altum did it again!

Sorry that I overslept! But what a beautiful surprise awakens me today!

I'm packing an underwear and on me way! Well virtually.

Seriously, I'll try for next weekend.

This time I'll bring some cheap wine.

Ed

Thanks you two. Dennis did the hard work with these fish. It's still been a full time job for the last month with these two convincing them to spawn but worth every second. Lets hope this is one of many this year for us.

Congrats Mike! Here's hoping you see this many more times in the future from the pair. :D

Doesn't look good. No wigglers. I'm disappointed but not surprised . What really surprises me is he was fanning the eggs afterwards. He's a strange one. I'm going to give it until tomorrow sometime.

Very sweet Mike, appears you pulled the cone. Hope the pair spawn again.

I've only pulled one dead wiggler. The fry are very robust and healthy this time around. Still figuring out if I want to stain the water to make sure the stripes form correctly. Right now I need to be able to see them so they are in clear water. They should swim Sunday night. I'm geeked.

Stain it! :) Blackwater treatment should be a relatively safe way to do it.
